Website and Trailer are ONLINE!

The trailer went online and there is a music excerpt in the PHOTOS section of the site. My partner and I are currently talking to the mayor of Waitakere City, Auckland, New Zealand. We hope he will support “Tatahi Muna” and can help us find a good movie theatre for an unforgettable premiere party.

Post-Production: Completed

“Tatahi Muna” is completed. Just in time to make the Sundance Film Festivals’ late deadline. It has been a true roller coaster ride towards the end. I guess this is what filmmaking is all about. I went from desperation to excessive enthusiasm and definitely jumped the deep end this time. If I would do it again? You bet! Being a film composer I had always thought I would know much about filmmaking. But after writing, shooting, directing and composing – doing everything by myself – I am much more aware of the complexity and imponderabilities of creating a movie from scratch. Oh – and the website went online last night:

Post-Production: Music

I am currently editing the footage and writing music for the score. While I was waiting for filmmaker Sheldon Gillett from GiantSquidFilms to post my slow-mo clips to me, I recorded gifted violin player Izabel Mandache at Titirangi Studios. She plays in various orchestras among which is the renowned APO (Auckland Philarmonic Orchestra). Another great and invaluable contributor can be announced: World-class vocalist from San Francisco: Poppi London. Poppi is known for her work on Oceans’s Twelve, Meet Joe Black, Crouching Tiger and many more. She and her husband Micco are extraordinary poeple. It is such a great pleasure to be working with them. They both do radiate so much kindness and are absolutely multi-talented individuals. I am full of excitement and cannot wait to add Poppi’s vocal parts to the existing mix of epic orchestra and celtic instruments!

Welcome to the “Tatahi Muna” Film Blog!

Hi everyone. My name is Jo Blankenburg. I am a german filmcomposer living in Auckland, New Zealand. My short film project “Tatahi Muna” is in post-production. Editing and color correcting the HD footage is great fun. Lucky me getting support from experienced filmmaker Sheldon Gillett, who is currently living in Sydney. He is helping me out slowing down some clips. I am after very smooth looking slow motion and he is an expert in this. Not an easy task though as I shot in 24p. This is my first film project and I am so thrilled as I get to edit the footage I shot by myself and then do what I always do – what I love to do: writing a score. Wohooo! Stay tuned.
